While it is a general belief that the positive social impact generated by social enterprises is mainly a result of "innovation", two distinguished scholars from Stanford PACS, Professor Johanna Mair and Dr Christian Seelos, have drawn a different conclusion through their research on social enterprises for a decade.  Their finding is that innovation is just a small part of the social impact creation process. For those less successful social enterprises, what holds them back is not inability to innovate but failure to embed their innovation efforts in a robust process for making those efforts with sustainable impact.  At the symposium on 10 December 2018, the two distinguished fellows are going to clarify the purpose and objective of innovation in social enterprise, provide insights as to how to embed innovation efforts in organisation practice, and avoid common mistakes during scaling up of business.
